About our Unique Enhancements to Pre-k Classrooms
The Central Consolidated School District (CCSD) offers unique prekindergarten classrooms designed to provide a strong foundation for your child's education. Prek registration for three and four-year-olds begins on April 25th. These services are available throughout all CCSD elementary schools.
What makes CCSD's prek program special is its collaborative approach and focus on meeting the diverse needs of our communities. We have identified four sites – Newcomb Elementary, Nizhoni Elementary, Judy Nelson, and Kirtland Elementary – as mixed-age sites for both three and four-year-olds. This allows us to accommodate more three-year-olds who may not have qualified for IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) previously.
Our prek program emphasizes bilingualism and incorporates Cultural Linguistics in learning (CLRI), connecting your child's home life with their classroom experiences. While adhering to New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) regulations and Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECCD) guidelines, we also work in conjunction with the Navajo Nation Head Start program to create a comprehensive approach.
In the second semester, our four-year-old prek classes transition to a more academic focus, ensuring a solid foundation for kindergarten. Uniquely, our elementary school principals have embraced the idea of offering prek students enriching experiences like art, music, PE, library, and sometimes beginning computer classes, providing advantages that not all daycare or prek facilities offer. We believe this well-rounded approach helps your child seamlessly transition into kindergarten.
