We commend all the efforts that our Eva B. Stokley families and staff have made to make it possible for our school to implement various learning models, including the hybrid in-person model. That was not an option for many school districts across the state and the Navajo Nation.
Transmission rates and positivity rates in the Shiprock community are on the rise, and we are seeing a bigger impact on our staff and students. With these trends, we are at a critical point where we must make a critical decision in an effort to help slow the virus and reduce the spike in cases we are experiencing in our community.
Because of this, Eva B. Stokely Elementary will teach ALL students through full remote learning that will include online learning instruction through Google Classroom as well as weekly instructional learning packets. The remote learning model will continue Monday, November 16, 2020, through the Thanksgiving break, which ends November 30, 2020 . I will, however, leave open the option to return early, if new data on the Covid-19 transmission rate in Shiprock decreases.
Parents are encouraged to regularly communicate with their student’s teacher to ensure their child is engaged in learning as well as to seek extra help when the need arises.
If you travel during the upcoming holidays, we urge you to please follow all the precautions, including wearing your mask in public, limiting gatherings and mixing of households, watching your distance to others, and washing your hands frequently. We also encourage families to consider quarantine upon return to the area and/or scheduling testing before returning to work
