My name is Jeannie M. Lewis and am Dine (Navajo) originally from Rough Rock, Arizona and Pinedale, New Mexico. My clans are Naashgali Ashiihi (Mescalero/Salt People clan), born for Haltsooi Dine’e (Meadow People Clan). My maternal grandparents clan is Bit’ahnii (Within his cover clan) and paternal grandparents clan is Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Clan).
I do possess my PreK/K-12 Principal Certification. This also includes a K-8 Professional Standard Teaching certificate. My experience in the educational field includes a combined number of 34 years in Pre-K/K to 12th/Adult Education/College/University as an educator, assistant professor and administrator.
I have a total of about 17 years in administration with various grant schools on the Navajo Reservation. I was also Assistant Professor for four years with Dine College in the School of Dine Studies and Education located in Tsaile, Arizona. In that position, I taught Bachelor and Associate Degree level college courses in Elementary Education. I was working on my Doctorate in Educational Leadership degree program with Fielding Graduate University, which I would like to pursue when time permits. I possess a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University.
My varied experience include, having served on various external review teams for schools that needed to be Re-Accredited by Cognia. I have also been involved as an educator/administrator in preparing schools for Cognia re-accreditation. Therefore, knowledgeable of Cognia standards, requirements and mandates for K-12 schools. I have also served on the school’s volunteer Fire Department as Fire Chief with a background of 24 years as a volunteer firefighter/safety/search & rescue in various schools. In a nutshell, this is who I am and know that I will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and be an asset to Central Consolidated School District – Eva B. Stokely Elementary School.
I feel very fortunate and blessed to have been chosen be a part of the CCSD administrative team as Eva B. Stokely Elementary Principal. I do have a strong background in the Navajo Immersion Language programs and am advocate for such programs to benefit our younger generation to preserve and revitalize the Dine Language. I am a fluent speaker, reader and writer of the Dine Language, as I was also an instructor of Navajo Language at the college level. I look forward to this school year and am so excited to be here at CCSD. Ahehee’
