Our Mascot

During the first semester of Bond Wilson (circa 2018) students were tasked with giving our mascot a name and writing a short story to accompany it.

The winner was Aaleigh Ashley from Newcomb High School C/O 2020. Here is her story...

She lives with our ancestors in the past and eats a lot of food, like a regular human being.

Sky is a beautiful, strong, former Navajo leader in the past and is highly intellectual. Sky was named after the beautiful sunrise that raised in the east and for the beautiful sunset in the west. One night, there was an emergency meeting called to address her leadership; she was given jewelry as a blessing for helping the people overcome many tribulations. But this wasn't any old jewelry set; the people of the Dine gave her a mystical squash blossom filled with magical green stones that were given to them by Father Sky at the very top of the sacred mountain.

This squash blossom allows Sky to travel through time and allows her to shapeshift into her chosen animal, the Bigfoot. The Navajo were very wise, they gave her a mission to change the way the future generations see Mother Earth, to tell them not to forget where they came from, and to make sure the future generations succeed with a good education. They sent her to our time period to help us change into better people and to spread awareness that other people and kids can do the same.

As Sky travels, she sees the struggles of the kids within our district and knows how much potential we have together as Dine. She sets her goal to better each of us as individuals and puts her focus on helping students succeed in every way she can. As she visits, her presence brings blessings upon each of the students and staff, which helps them perform better. For being this leader, she is now our hero because of how well students are performing and she gives us a better vision on what our ancestors wanted for us.
