NMHSCA All-Star Student Athletes

It is an honor for Central Consolidated Schools to recognize two of our student athletes who will be competing in the NMHSCA All-Star Football Game in the Wool Bowl in Roswell, NM. This will give both of them another opportunity to play one more game with other athletes from various schools. Players are divided into two teams; Red and Green Football Teams. When both students heard the news to play in Roswell, they were able to give us an answer to their reactions.

Zakk Thomas is a senior at Kirtland Central and will be one of the running backs on the Large Green team this Saturday. “I was surprised when I received news to play in the All-Star game. It’s a big opportunity for me to play one more game.” Zakk mentioned how well his senior season has gone. He especially appreciated being selected as one of the Captains for the team; not to forget how much he valued his new coach, Jeff Schaum. “The season was better for myself. Coach Schaum was great and I enjoyed his style of coaching and running the program.” For the senior’s last remark, he wanted to give thanks to someone in his family. Zakk’s grandpa has been his inspiration, and he has been to the games since Zakk was a freshman at Kirtland Central.

Perry Ellerbe is a senior at Newcomb High School who was chosen to be a secondary back on the Small Red team. “My brother told me the news, and I was ready to go,” Perry said over a virtual meeting. “I am always striving to do more for myself; this is a great step to continue doing that.” Perry is a leader on the field, valuing his teammates as family more than just as friends. “It’s been back and forth this year, but we were able to bring everyone together.” Perry would like to thank his brother and friends for always keeping him focused and motivated through his last season of high school football.
Both players are scheduled to play Saturday, December 4th @12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
