Central Consolidated School District JOM Program Receiving National Recognition

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Johnson-O’Malley Program in Central Consolidated Schools, along with schools and educators within the Nation's jurisdiction, received national recognition during the 2022 National Johnson-O'Malley Association Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, Nev., Wednesday, September 21.

During the ceremony, NJOMA recognized several educational programs within the Nation's boundaries for Educator of the Year and the National JOM Exemplary Program. The Intercultural and Community Outreach Department in Central Consolidated School District was honored for this year's National JOM Exemplary Program in the southwest region.

Central Consolidated School's Dual Language Program implemented the 90/10 model, emphasizing oral language development and cultural identity through using the Navajo Language and hands-on education. The JOM program inside CCSD also supported many presentations and hosted indigenous summer camps to empower students and families in the community.

"We have an exceptional team that goes above and beyond to help the JOM program become what it is, and we are truly blessed to have a great program highlighted," Suzette Haskie, CCSD Board of Education Vice President.
