Preventing the "Spicy Chip Challenge" in CCSD

Please be aware of a TikTok challenge involving students participating in the spicy chip challenge.

It's been brought to the District's attention that a social media challenge affected a school in New Mexico and others across the nation. It is called the "one chip challenge," in which a person eats one extremely spicy tortilla chip. This product can cause excessive and unpleasant side effects on the student's safety and well-being.

The product called "Paqui" consists of a coffin-shaped package containing a single tortilla chip coated in spicy flavoring, which is advertised to be made from Carolina Reaper and Scorpion pepper.

Coming in contact with the chips can pose serious health effects or injury, particularly for small children and individuals with allergies or asthma. Students can easily purchase the chip at local gas stations and grocery stores.

We encourage parents and guardians to speak with their children to discourage purchasing and participating in any challenge to keep them safe.
