Hello Newcomb Elementary Families!
Teaching and learning is in full swing at Newcomb Elementary. Last week’s highlights of teaching and learning at Newcomb included a wide array of engaging and rigorous experiences for all students. Your K-2nd students are continuing to work with strategies that help students to read, write and strengthen their number sense. For the upper grades (3rd -5th) teachers are working closely with our CCSD Instructional Coach on creating Common Formative Assessment that will be used to see how well our students are progressing. Our teachers can utilize these formative assessments to teach reading comprehension, writing and critical thinking skills. In addition, it acts as a natural partner for Depth & Knowledge, Close reading, working beyond the continuum and gives our teachers real literature experiences to expose students to in the classroom. Our teachers are excited to bring back what they have learned from the training continue to ignite unlimited possibilities for our Eagles.
Attendance is a crucial component to academic success. I want to thank all of our students and families for arriving to school on time and prioritizing attendance. Our goal is to have outstanding attendance this year. Please, make attendance a priority in your home.
Our home-school partnership is the cornerstone to our success. If you are not already involved, we urge you to volunteer at school in a variety of ways. Research links parental involvement to student achievement and success. Our Parent Advisory Committee is currently in need of parents to help with fundraising, planning upcoming events, such as Halloween Carnival. These events are volunteer run and cannot be possible without the help of our families. Your time and support means so much and truly makes a difference!
